Canticle, a wildly successful youth choir program, is excited to invite music directors, educators, and youth group leaders to their immersive conference, Sounds of Heaven. This Chant Training Intensive is designed for those looking to incorporate Gregorian chant into their music programs and build successful youth choirs.

Hosted by Mary Ann Carr Wilson and other experienced educators, the conference will be held from July 16-20 at the historic church of Our Lady of the Rosary in San Diego’s Little Italy.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field, meet like-minded professionals, and gain valuable tools and resources to help expand their repertoire and build a youth chant schola.

Requiem Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the CMAA Colloquium

On Friday at the CMAA Colloquium, a solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael DeSaye at the Cathedral Basilica of St Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. The Mass Ordinary was the Missa pro defuncto Archiepiscopo Sigismondo by Michael Haydn with orchestra; the conductors pictured are David Hughes and Dr Timothy McDonnell. The soloists were Mary Ann Carr-Wilson, Charlene Angelini (the director of music at the cathedral), Nicholas Lemme and Michael Garrepy. A Requiem Mass is offered each year at the Colloquium for deceased members of the CMAA.

Opening Mass of the CMAA Colloquium in Philadelphia

The opening Mass of the CMAA Colloquium in Philadelphia took place yesterday at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, a votive Mass of the Holy Angels, celebrated by Fr David Friel. The first Mass of the Colloquium is always sung in English, with English music settings; the Propers were by Fr Samuel Weber OSB, and the Mass Ordinary was the Mass in Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Star of the Sea by Michael Olbash, who was also organist. The choirs also sang two motets, Call to Remembrance by Richard Farrant and Richard de Castre’s Prayer to Jesus by R.R. Terry. The choir directors pictured are Jeffrey Morse and Mary Ann Carr-Wilson.

Closing Mass of the CMAA Colloquium

The final Mass of the CMAA Colloquium took place yesterday at St Mark’s Church, St Paul Minnesota. Solemn Mass for the Feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist was celebrated by the CMAA Chaplain, Fr Robert Pasley. Amongst the choir directors pictured are Jonathan Ryan, Mary Ann Carr Wilson, Jeffrey Morse, Wilko Brouwers, David Hughes and Melanie Malinka.

The CMAA’s Colloquium Mass in the Magnificent Cathedral Basilica of St Louis

More photographs from the CMAA Colloquium, this time from the stunning Cathedral Basilica of St Louis. The Mass for the Nativity of St John the Baptist was celebrated by Bishop Conley of Lincoln, Nebraska. The music included Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli, and the organ was played by the cathedral’s own Director of Music and Vice President of the CMAA, Horst Buchholz. The director of the Colloquium’s Palestrina Choir, Wilko Brouwers, is pictured, as are Mary Ann Carr Wilson, who directed one of the Chant Choirs, and William Mahrt, CMAA President, who directed the Chant Improvisation Course.
