More Renovations: Venice, Florida

A further renovation story that I have been waiting to post about until after Holy Week is one that has been occuring within Venice, Florida.

First, a little background from our reader:

On April 19, 2009 at 9a.m., Bishop Frank J. Dewane of the Diocese of Venice in Florida will Dedicate Christ the King Church , the first church in the state of Florida to offer the Sacraments exclusively according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. The Church will be staffed by priests of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter who will live in community in Sarasota --from where they will also serve other nearby apostolates within the Diocese of Venice.

The church in question has undergone some extensive renovations. I can only show you the church building in its early renovation period -- which does indeed give a sense to the former church arrangement -- and then the building in the later stages of the renovation -- but prior to its dedication.

LATER FORM OF THE RENOVATIONS

Certain additions speak for themselves but one of the more subtle changes here, but a change which was very important, was the heightening of the ceiling of the church. Similarly, another was found in the heightening of the sanctuary from the level of the nave, and further, the altar itself.

The NLM will be providing photos from the dedication of the Church.
