His Excellency Charles Chaput, the Archbishop of Philadelphia, has assigned a church in his archdiocese to the Fraternity of St Peter. The church of St Mary in the suburb of Conshohocken was built in 1950 for the local Polish community, and merged with another local parish in 2014. According to
an official decree dated March 14th and signed by the Archbishop, a quasi-parish (canon 516) for the Extraordinary Form will be officially established as of August 1st of this year.
The decree notes that this decision was made after consultation with “the Council of Priests, area pastors and others around the archdiocese who are already involved in public celebrations of the Extraordinary Form.” May this be a good sign and a model for fruitful collaboration, in Philadelphia and elsewhere, between the various
Ecclesia Dei institutes and the local clergy.
