Upcoming Events at Our Lady of Mt Carmel in NYC

Tomorrow, the First Saturday of the month of September, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in New York City will have a Sung Mass will be offered in the traditional rite in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, starting at 9am. Following Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed; Confessions will be heard before Mass and during Adoration. Novena prayers to Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be offered, as well as prayers for the Beatification of Venerable Pierre Toussaint, and the Holy Rosary, concluding with Benediction, and veneration of the icon of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The church is located at 448 E. 116th St. in Manhattan.

On Sunday September 8, the Mount Carmel Chapter of the Catholic Society of Young Adults will hold a special series of events at the church, beginning with an EF Sung Mass at 10:30 a.m. After Mass, coffee hour is held in the parish hall; around noon, the Angelus and Rosary will be prayed at an outdoor shrine set up in front of the rectory. Following the Rosary, participants may stay further to pass out church bulletins, holy cards as well as offering prayer to those passing by and inviting them to visit the Church. Concluding prayers will be offered at 1:20 p.m. and the outdoor shrine taken down thereafter. All are invited to join this celebration of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in NYC

The Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in New York City will have a special series of events for its Patronal feast, which is this coming Tuesday, July 16th.

On Monday, July 15th:

• 5:30 p.m. - Missa Cantata in the Extraordinary Form
• 7:30 p.m. - Solemn First Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Benediction
• 9:00 p.m. - Outdoor Candlelight Procession with Our Lady
• 11:00 p.m. - Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Chanting of the Litany of Loreto

On Tuesday, July 16th:

• 12:00 a.m. - Solemn Midnight Mass in the Extraordinary Form, after which the church will remain open all night
• Starting in the morning, Mass will be offered every hour from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Confessions will also be heard, and brown scapulars and holy cards available will be available. The first two Masses (6 and 7 am will be Low Masses in the Extraordinary Form)
• 10:00 a.m. - Principal Mass of the Day in the Extraordinary Form (Missa Cantata, Solemn if Subdeacon is available)

EF Mass and Procession for Corpus Christi in NYC

Tomorrow, for the feast of Corpus Christi, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New York City will offer a sung Mass in the traditional rite, followed by an outdoor procession in East Harlem, Manhattan, starting at 7:00 p.m. At approximately 5:00 p.m., two outdoor altars will be set up, one in front of the rectory and another along the procession route for the triple Benediction; volunteers are invited to assist at setting up these altars. At 6:00 p.m., the Angelus and Rosary will be prayed; confessions will be heard in the hour before Mass. The crurch is located at 448 East 116th St. in Manhattan.

At the conclusion of the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed. The procession will go outdoors; hymns and chants will be sung in Latin, Polish, Spanish and English. The procession will take the following route:
1. Exit Church on East 115th Street
2. West on 115th Street - stop at altar
3. North on 1st Avenue
4. East on 116th Street - stop at Rectory altar
5. South on Pleasant Avenue
6. West on 115th Street
7. Enter Church on 115th Street

A moment of Adoration followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will take place at the two Altars, the first on East 115th Street, and the second in front of the Rectory on East 116th Street, with a third Benediction in the church itself. All are invited to join this public profession of Faith in Christ and His Church, and the True Presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Annunciation Masses in New York City and Rome

On Monday, March 25th, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New York City will celebrate the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a High Mass in Latin, starting at 7pm. The Angelus will be said at 6pm, and the Rosary at 6:30; Confessions will be heard in the hour before Mass. The church is located at 448 East 116th St in Manhattan; visit the parish website for other announcements of upcoming events.

A Missa cantata in the Dominican Rite will be celebrated on the feast of the Annunciation at the church of Ss Dominic and Sixtus, which is right next to the Angelicum University in Rome (Largo Angelicum 1), starting at 12:30 pm. A traditional Mass is celebrated at the same time in the church every Tuesday in the Roman Rite, and every Thursday in the Dominican Rite. 

Candlemas and St Blase in New York City

On Saturday, February 2nd, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New York City will celebrate the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the traditional blessing and distribution of candles, procession and High Mass in Latin, starting at 9am. The faithful are most welcome to bring their own candles to be blessed. Following Mass, there will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, novena prayers to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, prayers for the beatification of Ven. Pierre Toussaint, and the recitation of the Holy Rosary. The rites will conclude with Benediction, and veneration of the icon of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Confessions will be heard before Mass and during Adoration. The church is located at 448 East 116th St in Manhattan.

Christmas Notices for San Francisco and New York City

The Traditional Latin Mass Society of San Francisco will have the Midnight Mass of Christmas at the church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Belmont, California, (on the San Francisco peninsula) located at 1040 Alameda de las Pulgas. The traditional proclamation of the Birth of Christ (the Martyrology entry for Christmas day) will be chanted, followed by a procession with a statue of the Christ Child around the church.

The Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Manhattan will open at 10:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, with Confessions starting at 11:00, the Proclamation of the Nativity of the Lord at 11:50, followed by the Midnight Mass in the Extraordinary Form. The Missa in Aurora will be celebrated as a Low Mass at 1:30 a.m., followed by a Mass in English at 9:15, an EF High Mass of Christmas Day at 10:30, and a Mass in Spanish at 11:45. The church is located at 448 East 116th Street.

Our Lady of Guadalupe: Notices for New York and Chicago

Annunciation Church in Crestwood, New York, will celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12th with a Latin Mass in the Ordinary Form, at which Victoria’s Missa O quam gloriosa will be sung. The Mass begins at 7 pm; the church is located at 470 Westchester Avenue.

The Shrine of Christ the King in Chicago, Illinois, an apostolate of the Institute of Christ the King, will have a Mass in the traditional rite for Our Lady of Guadalupe with sacred music by various Mexican composers, ranging from the 16th-18th centuries (Juan de Rivera, Francisco Capillas, Francisco de Quirós, and Hernando Franco). After the fire of October 2015, the community is currently celebrating its Masses at the church of St Thomas the Apostle, located at 5472 S. Kimbark Avenue; the Mass will begin at 6:30 pm.

On Tuesday, December 11, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Manhattan will hold a vigil for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, with Confessions and the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., and a sung Mass in the traditional rite at 7:30. On the feast day itself, a procession will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Solemn Mass in Spanish at 8:00. The church is located at 448 East 116th Street.

All Saints and All Souls Announcements: NYC, Colorado, Bridgeport CT

The Pontifical Shrine and Parish Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New York City will have two EF Masses (one low and one solemn) and two OF Masses on both All Saints Day and All Souls Day. The solemn Mass on All Souls will be followed by the Absolution at the catafalque. The church is located at 448 East 116th Street.

The FSSP church in Littleton, Colorado, Our Lady of Mt Carmel, will celebrate All Saints by singing Victoria’s Mass O quam gloriosa, which was composed specifically for this feast. The Mass begins at 7pm; the church is located at 5620 S. Hickory Circle.

The ICK church in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Ss Cyril and Methodius Oratory, will have Masses at 6pm on both All Saints and All Souls, with Victoria’s Requiem Mass on the latter. The church is located at 79 Church Street.

All-Night Vigil at Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Manhattan, Oct. 5-6

On October 5-6, First Friday and First Saturday, there will be an all-night vigil of Adoration before the Most Blessed Sacrament at the Pontifical Shrine and Parish Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Manhattan, located at 448 East 116th Street. The opening Mass will be offered in the Extraordinary Form, beginning at 7:30 pm, followed by the Stations of the Cross. At approximately 9:00 pm, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed and enthroned on the high altar; silent Holy Hours and vocal prayers will be offered throughout the night. At 4:30 am, there will be an indoor procession with the Blessed Sacrament, followed by Benediction, and a closing Mass in the Extraordinary Form, beginning at 5:00 a.m. Mass intentions and candle offerings are available for this vigil. Gentlemen are invited to serve as acolytes for the Masses, the Stations of the Cross, Exposition, Procession and Benediction; ladies and gentlemen are invited to lead the prayers throughout the night. Benefactors and volunteers to assist in bringing and preparing refreshments in the meeting room, serving as ushers to guide the faithful, especially elderly and disabled faithful to the facilities of the stairs and restrooms.

All-Night Vigil with Two EF Masses at Our Lady of Mt Carmel in NYC, Sept. 14-15

On Friday, September 14, and Saturday, September 15, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Manhattan, NYC, will hold an All-Night Vigil of Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.  All are invited to join in prayer for the many necessities and intentions offered and placed before Our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament, especially in reparation for the victims of sexual abuse by members of the Church, for the healing and purification of the Church. September 14th is also the eleventh annivsary of the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, and the faithful are invited to prayer in thanksgiving Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI permission to every priest to offer the Mass, Divine Office and Sacraments in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite without restriction.

As noted in the schedule below, Mass for the Exaltation of the Cross on Sept. 14, will be sung at 7:30 pm, that of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary on Sept. 14 at 5:00 am. The church is located at 448 E. 116th St.

Upcoming Events at Our Lady of Mt Carmel in NYC

On Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 5:00 pm, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in New York City will host a group of priests from the Syriac Catholci Eparchy of Our Lady of Deliverance of Newark, for a celebration of the Qurbono Qadisho (“Holy Offering” or “Holy Sacrifice”) according to the Antiochian Rite of the Syriac Catholic Church. Attendance at this liturgy will fulfill the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday; following Holy Liturgy, the infirm are invited to approach the Altar Rail to be blessed. The church is located at 448 E. 116th St.

This Liturgy at Our Lady Mt Carmel is a part of the Pallottine tradition of presenting Eastern Catholic liturgies, especially during the Octave of the Epiphany, and now the Novena in preparation for the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

The Syriac Catholic Church is one of 23 Eastern Catholic Churches based in Syria; the Patriarch, His Beatitude Ignatius Ephrem Joseph III Yonan, has the Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and all the East of the Syriacs since his election on January 20, 2009, and resides in Beirut, Lebanon. The languages used for the sacred Liturgical Rites are Syriac and Aramaic, the languages Our Lord himself would have used.

ON Saturday, July 21, the Seventh Annual Traditional Mass Pilgrimage to the same church will take place, the culmination of the 134th annual feast of the Shrine and Parish’s Patroness, Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

At 10:00 am, there will be a sermon on the Virgin Mary, followed by the Holy Rosary will be recited. Thereafter, the children will sing and present to the Blessed Mother a gift of flowers. Penitents will be invited to process down the nave on their knees and or discalced. Solemn Mass will be offered at 11:15 am. At 12:30 pm, there will be a Procession with the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament and the Veneration of the Relics of Ss Vincent Pallotti and Elena di Laurino. Pilgrims will be able to take part in a potluck lunch in the parish hall, or eat at one of many nearby restaurants. Requiem Mass and Prayers of the Church in China, Tomorrow in NYC

Tomorrow, February 26, there will be a solemn Requiem Mass and Absolution at the Catafalque to mark the 100th anniversary of the Happy Valley Racecourse Fire in Hong Kong, an event in which 670 people perished. The Mass will be at the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in New York City, beginning at 7:30 PM; the church is located at 448 East 116th St.

Following Mass, the sacred ministers will change from black to violet vestments and lead the choir and people in a procession throughout the Church, singing a Solemn Litany of the Saints to beseech Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and the Communion of Saints to intercede for the persecuted Church in China, and protect it against the attacks it faces today. At the Requiem Mass, the choir will sing the Missa pro defunctis for six voices by Manuel Cardoso (1566-1650). The Mass is being sponsored by a family that lost five members in the tragedy.

EF Candlemas in New York City

On Friday, February 2, at 7:30 pm, there will be a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, located at 448 East 116th Street in New York City. The Mass will be preceded by the traditional of candles and procession; all the Faithful are urged to bring their own candles to be blessed.
