This book is the only history ever completed in English for the liturgical tradition of the Dominican Order. Father Bonniwell covers both the Mass and the Office. For the period from 1945 to 1970, one may consult my essay History of the Dominican Liturgy, 1945-1969, also at Dominican Liturgy.

The image of St. Dominic to the right is from the Dominican Breviary of 1699 and was used by Fr. Bonniwell opposite the title page of the book.
