Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos in Toulon, France

Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos celebrated Mass this morning in France at the parish church of St. Francois de Paule in central Toulon.

The occasion of this visit and Mass was the anniversary of the erection of the personal parish for the usus antiquior for the diocese of Frejus-Toulon by its bishop, Msgr Dominique Rey.

The bishop of that diocese has given this church to an Institute he has founded, the Society of the Missionaries of the Divine Mercy. They have grown to over 10 in just three years.

The Mass was celebrated in Mgr. Rey's presence, with the Abbot of Le Barroux also in attendance.

In accordance with the option now granted by Benedict XVI in Summorum Pontificum, the epistle and Gospel were sung directly in French. Additionally, all sang the Pater Noster together.

After the Mass there was a procession in honour of the BVM through the streets, presided over by the bishop.
