Music Position in Pelham, New York

This looks like a dream job, and it is enormously encouraging that such position are becoming available:

St. Catharine's Church in Pelham, New York, seeks a full-time Organist & Choirmaster to direct all aspects of the parish's musical life. The ideal candidate will have experience in directing Gregorian chant and polyphony, enthusiasm for working with dedicated volunteers, and a good singing voice. Responsibilities include directing an Adult Choir with a wide repertoire (recent motets & Masses have included works by Vierne, Duruflé, Palestrina, and Lasso), a Children's Choir, and playing for all Sunday, Holy Day, and First Friday Masses. Familiarity with the Divine Office for occasional Holy Hours and Vespers services a plus. Rights to approximately 40 funerals and weddings per year.

As part of the church's and the pastor's ongoing committment to sacred music, the parish installed in 2003 an 1880/1957 Warren/Casavant pipe organ (II/30), renowned among organists in the area for its warmth and versatility; the candidate may wish to continue the established recital series. The parish employs as its hymnal the excellent (and currently out-of-print) Hymns, Psalms & Spiritual Canticles, edited by the late Theodore Marier.
