Richard Proulx, RIP

Richard Proulx, one of the last great composers within the Catholic milieu who came of age in a time before commercial-style pop music came to dominant American parishes following the Second Vatican Council, has died on February 18, 2010. He was born April 1937. He worked to keep standards high, as a reflection of his own background and serious training, and managed a substantial amount of influence in connecting the style of contemporary music back to an authentic Catholic tradition. As you browse through current materials available from mainstream publishers, it is predictable that anything by Proulx will be a cut above the rest, as most Catholic musicians have noted. You can read his full and remarkable list of honors on his own biography page.
