A New Edition of an Early Dominican Breviary

We are happy to share this news from Mr Alan Liang about a new edition of the breviary of Humbert of Romans, the form of the Dominican Divine Office as standardized in 1256. This comes from a manuscript now preserved at the church of Santa Sabina in Rome, where the generalate of the Order is located; this manuscript enshrines the prototype of the entire Dominican as it would be celebrated regularly until 1969. This edition does not contain any feasts added to the Order’s calendar since then (the number of which is very great indeed), nor the psalter as reformed by Pope St Pius X. Mr Liang has also produced an ordo, so the book can actually be used to pray the Office.

There are many more sample pages, and images of the original codex, beneath the break.

Some sample pages of the book, which keeps the orthography and the use of colored letters found in the original manuscript.
