Treasures of the Past

Last night before choir practice, we were reading through the Ward Method Book One from 1920 (an amazing book) and ran across a beautiful old hymn designed for children for first communion, printed on the last page of the book. This very touching hymn reminds us of how many treasures there are in our past, even our recent past. It is simply untrue that English-language hymnody for the Catholic Church is entirely postconcilar.

Also, here is a pdf. Try it out! Communion services for kids are these days mostly calamities. Something like this could very much improve things. Of course if the kids sang it with Ward training, all the better. Of course first we need Ward teachers, but that's another subject.
