Gregorian Chant Retreat
June 26-28, 2009
Leader: Sr. Hildegard Dubnick, OSB

This weekend retreat will present some theory and practice to deepen your understanding of and appreciation for this powerful art form. Familiarity with modern music notation is helpful, but not required. This June retreat will focus on chants of the Mass. We will start with some theory, and an explanation of how to read chant notation. In preparation for the celebration of the Eucharist on Sunday morning, we will use the Latin chants of that Mass as examples. Participants are welcome to attend liturgies with the nuns, where the chant – both Latin and English – can be experienced in its natural setting of worship. There may also be an opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession).

Retreat begins with registration Friday afternoon and concludes with breakfast Sunday morning. Retreat fee or $175 includes private room (shared bath) for two nights, and meals from Friday supper through Sunday breakfast. Pre-registration and deposit of $40 (applicable toward total) are requested to secure your reservation.

Sister Hildegard Dubnick has been singing Gregorian Chant since she entered our Abbey in 1987. She has been the Abbey's main organist since 1995. The Abbey of St. Walburga is located about 35 miles north of Fort Collins, 29 miles south of Laramie, on U.S. Highway 287. The entrance road is on the west side of the highway, at mile marker 381, about four miles south of the Wyoming state line. For more information or to make reservations, please call 970-472-0612, or visit us on-line at www.walburga.org.
