Please Do Not Tell Us to Silence our Cell Phones

A blogger posted a plea to musicians to stop telling people to turn off their cell phones. A very reasonable critique is that such a request is patronizing, distracting, tedious, subject changing, suggests a concert setting, and more things along these lines. These announcements should stop. This blogger in particular laughed at the irony of it all, and longs for the day when we "take a moment to silence all electronic devices" - including booming microphones, electric pianos, and electric guitars.

In any case, the blogger posted and then the roof fell in. As he writes, "it always seems that when I criticize something that occurs during the liturgy, I always get accused of failing to see people’s good intentions."
