Conference on Summorum Pontificum in Garanhuns, Brazil

Some time ago, we had mentioned the appointment of Mons. Fernando José Monteiro Guimarães, C.Ss.R., Bishop of Garanhuns (Brazil) and promotor of the usus antiquior, as member of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. From our friends at Salvem a Liturgia! we now learn that Mons. Guimarães has taken an outstanding initiative for the adavancement of the extraordinary form: from 17 to 19 June 2010, there will be a conference on the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum for priests in his see city of Garanhuns. The conference will take place at the diocesan seminary, Mons. Guimarães himself will give a talk, celebrate low Mass in the extraordinary form to open the conference in the seminary chapel, and assist pontifically at a solemn pontifical Mass in his cathedral celebrated by H.E. Bishop Fernando Rifan of the Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Mary Vianney on the following day. Mons. Guimarães will send an invitation with the programme to all Brazilian bishops in whose dioceses the extraordinary form is celebrated or where there are interested priests.
