Chanted Vespers in Washington, D.C.

The St. Matthew Cathedral in Washington, D.C., will pray Solemn Gregorian Vespers for Laetare Sunday at 4:00pm Sunday March 14, 2010.

The Cathedral’s Schola Cantorum will sing the chants of the vespers from the Liber Usualis and the new Vesperale, with a choral Magnificat by Orlando di Lasso. All of the elements of the prayer will be chanted in Latin. The Schola Cantorum will also sing Gustate et Videte by Orlando di Lasso, (Psalm 34 is the assigned responsorial psalm for Laetare Sunday Cycle C), After the People Had Seen the Sign by Melchior Vulpius, (from the Gospel passage traditionally associated with Laetare Sunday), and Heinrich Schütz’ So Fahr Ich Hin Jesus Christ (chosen to compliment the Lectio Brevis chanted for this Vespers.) Father Kevin Regan will be the presiding celebrant.
