Feast of St. Ambrose of Milan

St. Ambrose of Milan, pray for us.
Best wishes to our friends in the Ambrosian rite.

I have had the great privilege to see the ancient mosaic above in person, and of even greater privilege, to pray before the blessed relics of this great Father of the Church.

The figure of St. Ambrose is interesting in many regards; from the writings which have come down to us, to the liturgical tradition associated with his name. Indeed, I have often noted that of the Western liturgical traditions, the Ambrosian is certainly one which I find of particular interest.

In honour of the saint's feast day, I thought I would share again an image from the Ambrosian liturgical tradition which we last showed in 2008; that of the lighting of the "faro". You can read more about it here.

And here it is in video, in the context of the modern Ambrosian liturgy.
