The Blessed Silence: Christ Portrayed as an Angel

Fr Ray Blake from St Mary Magdalen in Brighton, England, just sent me this link to his blog, and his piece about Russian icons that depict Christ as an angel. Given recent discussions on varying portrayals of Christ in Eastern and Western devotions, I thought I would just post it up for NLM readers. As he says, 'Not quite the Sacred Heart, but a Russian Orthodox representation of Divine Mercy'.

I must admit, I have never come across this before and I'm not sure what to make of it. My first reaction is always to feel uneasy about hybrid images. I would have to do more research before painting one myself. I am open to persuasion though and it is interesting nevertheless! To read and see more, go here. The discussion under Fr Ray's article is worth a look as well.
