US Bishops' Music and Liturgy Subcommittee seeks advice

William Mahrt will represent the CMAA at the October 9, 2006, meeting in preparation for a revision of two influential essays on music released by the subcommittee in 1972 and 1982. CMAA Vice-President, Horst Buchholz, Director of Sacred Music at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and Associate Professor of Music at St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver, will also attend the meeting on behalf of the Archdiocese of Denver.

NML readers might consider their own suggested points for the subcommittee to consider in this regard. I might recommend paragraph 7 of the Chirograph by John Paul II: "Among the musical expressions that correspond best with the qualities demanded by the notion of sacred music, especially liturgical music, Gregorian chant has a special place....."
