The Trombone Choir and its Liturgical Qualities

My first serious exposure to liturgical polyphonic music was in a trombone choir in college. There is something very special about the sound. It has an organ-like result, which is turn features aspects of the human voice, the primary liturgical instrument.

So that you can experience what I mean, here is a youtube of the Columbus State Trombone Choir playing Ave Dulcissima Maria by Gesualdo. Can I imagine this sound coming from the loft? I can indeed.
