May Day at Magdalen College, Oxford

Fr. Tim Finigan at the Hermeneutic of Continuity shares some video of an interesting tradition which occurs at sunrise on May Day morning at Oxford's Magdalen College.

From Finigan: "An Oxford tradition on Mayday morning is for the choir of Magdalen College to sing the Hymnus Eucharisticus from the tower of the College." (Fr. Finigan also details some other, less pious aspects of this tradition.)

My own first introduction to this tradition was by way of the film Shadowlands (I have heard this edition is much better) which is about the life of C.S. Lewis, a fellow of Magdalen College.

Fr. Finigan shares some video, originally shared by Anglican clergyman Fr. Michael Gollop, SSC, which captures this tradition. This video was taken May 1st, 2009.
