Holy Week Altars at Brompton Oratory

The High Altar, Palm Sunday 2008. The frontal is particularly worthy of comment; the palm decoration is fairly restrained, which is to the Oratory's credit, though one wonders if smaller, simpler fan-shaped palm fronds might have resulted in a more pleasing aesthetic effect. Nonetheless, the two ranges tall Baroque candlesticks are well-suited to the colossal scale and style of the interior.

The High Altar, Tenebrae, Holy Week 2007. Note in particular the unbleached wax candles and traditional black funeral-style candlesticks with touches of gilding, as well as the Tenebrae hearse to the the epistle side.
