We have often recommended the Divine Office for the lay faithful as a particularly powerful and effectual way of living a liturgical life, bringing liturgical prayer and the liturgical calendar into one's day to day domestic lives.

After the Divine Office, I would also heartily recommend reading from the Roman Marytology each day. Reading from the martyrology is a great way to stay in touch with some of the lesser known saints and martyrs, be reminded of the presence of the saints of the Old Testament in our liturgical calendar, and further, it is also a way to dive into the history of the early Church and its persecution within the context of the Roman Empire -- not to mention under some of the early heresies.

For those who do not have a copy of the Roman Martyrology, an online edition of the older martyrology is available on breviary.net and you may purchase a reprint of the English translation of the 1961 Martryology from Preserving Christian Publications. You may also be interested in the Latin edition of the 2005 Martyrlogium available from Paxbook.com.
