Here are some pictures of the liturgical celebrations held last week during the Church Music Association of America’s 35th Annual Sacred Music Colloquium, at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota
On Wednesday, June 25th, a Votive Mass of St. Joseph was celebrated in Spanish and Latin by Fr Michael Connolly, with the Mass ordinary Misa en Honor a San José, Christopher Berry as organist, the Men’s Schola directed by Fr. Bachmann and the Women’s Schola directed by Dr. Jennifer Donelson-Nowicka.
On Thursday, June 26th, a Requiem Mass for all deceased members of the CMAA was celebrated by Fr Robert Pasley, who has served as chaplain to the group for many years, and recently took on the role of President after the passing of Dr William Mahrt. The choirs and music were as follows: Introit Requiem æternam (sung intermediates, conducted by Lucas Tappan); Gradual Requiem æternam (by men’s schola, conducted by Fr Bachmann); Tract Absolve Domine (by the women’s schola, conducted by Dr Donelson-Nowicka); Offertory Dómine Jesu Christe (by the chant conducting class, conducted by Dr David Hughes); Communion Lux æterna (by the men’s schola, Bachmann); Communion motet Ecce quomodo moritur, by Jacob Handl; Responsory at the Absolution Libera me (by the women’s schola, Donelson-Nowicka).
In the evening, First Vespers of the feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop Andrew Cozzens, bishop of Crookston, Minnesota, with Horst Buchholz as organist, the psalmody sung in alternation by the men’s and women’s scholæ, and the Magnificat primi toni of Cipriano de Rore sung by section-leader ensemble.
